Before we begin, here’s what you need to know and do. Please be sure to read this page before clicking to start the game at the bottom of this page.
The Profoctor Predicament is set in the world of Oblivity, a comedy sci-fi podcast. You don’t need prior knowledge of the show to play the game.
What you need to play this game:
1 - 4 Special Operatives - or their brains at the very least. We recommend the game for ages 12+. Some puzzles are suitable for younger Special Operatives.
The Pack PDF - either downloaded, or printed: Do not flick through The Pack until you’ve read the details below! Printing The Pack will give the best experience - and double-sided will work well. Black and white is fine. You can still play the game without printing The Pack. Just be prepared for a bit more pencil-and-paper scribbling.
Internet access on a desktop or tablet browser.
A pencil and paper for code-breaking and note-taking.
Five important things to know before you begin
How to play: You will solve puzzles to find codes. You’ll need the codes to access each new webpage and progress through the game. There will never be a need to go back to previous webpages, unless you have a code wrong (i.e. it doesn’t work when you submit it) in which case you can click back in your browser, and try and find the right code again.
What you need: To solve puzzles, you will need both The Pack and the webpages. The Pack contains the Base Journal which you’ll need to consult throughout the game to help you solve many of the puzzles. Feel free to browse the Base Journal at any point, but don’t open the Profoctor’s final puzzle pages until you’re instructed to do so!
About the codes: Codes will either be a string of eight numbers (i.e. 47295615) or an eight-letter word (i.e. TORTOISE). You must input letters in CAPITAL LETTERS, even though they look shouty.
Accessibility: The game contains images and videos, which you can click on to enlarge. You may wish to use closed captions to hear audio clearly. These are available on the settings within each video. (As we made this game under lockdown and often without professional equipment, some of the sound quality is a little below par!)
Stuck?: You’ll see links to a ‘Clues’ page and an ‘Answers’ page at the bottom of each puzzle page. These links will open in new tabs. You can keep these open, or close them after each use to prevent yourself from taking sneaky glances…
What The Pack contains:
A redacted letter from HQ
The Persephone Base Journal: You’ll need this to solve many of the puzzles. You can - and should - refer to any of the pages in the Base Journal at any time.
The Profoctor’s Puzzle: DO NOT OPEN THIS section until you are instructed to do so within the game!
